Dr Janet Pate
I love serving children in my Houston and Bellaire community!
I grew up in Houston, graduated from Bellaire High School (class of ’92) and only left Houston for a short time during college. I majored in Biochemistry and Spanish and graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ’96.
Upon returning to Houston, I participated in laboratory genetics and cell biology research at Baylor College of Medicine, only to realize that my greatest interests lay in direct care to patients. I studied hard, leaned on my wonderful husband and family for moral support and achieved my Doctorate of Medicine from Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine in 2001.
During my pediatric residency program at Texas Children’s Hospital and Ben Taub General Hospital through Baylor College of Medicine, I learned from many exceptional mentors including the former Physician in Chief, Dr. Ralph Feigin. Working closely alongside him as Pediatric Chief Resident in 2004, he taught me what it means to “put patient care first.” His work ethic, exceptional diagnostic skills and encyclopedic knowledge of medicine have been my model for the practice of pediatric medicine.
After completing residency, I joined Texas Children’s Pediatrics (TCP), where I practiced pediatric medicine for 11 years. I am thankful to my colleagues at TCP for all that I learned as a young physician under the shelter of their umbrella. With time, I found that my ideals of the practice of pediatric medicine were diverging from the TCP business model.
At a time when independent pediatric practices are quickly disappearing, my team and I have created Nurture Pediatrics to bring you the finest general pediatric care possible. I know that your child’s health is precious, and I also know that your time is valuable. My team and I will work diligently to walk you through all the ups and downs of raising a child, as we have for greater than 500 other newborn families before you. From birth to adolescence, know that your child will find a welcoming smile, a listening ear and genuine interest in their health and well-being at our office!
On a personal note, I married my high-school sweetheart Bryan Pate in 1998 and we have 2 fantastic sons, Joshua and Nathaniel who sometimes talk to each other in Mandarin Chinese when they don’t want me to understand them! We love playing with our many pets, goofing off at beaches, hiking, running and hanging out with our extended families. Our family serves in quite a number of ministries, the most significant being family Life Groups at our home through Crosspoint Church for more than 10 years, several faith based medical ministries including family based nutrition classes at Casa El Buen Samaritano for 5 years, and Peace Gospel Ministries for more years than we can recall.
