Well Child Care

Well Child ExamsAt every preventative care visit, our team provides an evaluation of your child’s nutrition, growth and development, a complete physical exam and guidance to you and your child about what to expect in the upcoming months (anticipatory guidance).

 

Above and beyond these services, we follow the Bright Futures (AAP) Recommendations* for additional health screenings at the following “Well Child Checks”:

 

Newborn Well Checks

5-7 days of life

  • Vision screening
  • Hearing screening (OAE) if not completed in hospital
  • Bilirubin check (for jaundice)
  • Immunization (Hep B vaccine if not given at birth)

2-4 weeks of life

  • Texas Newborn Screen
  • Repeat Bilirubin level (if needed)
  • Screening for exposure to tuberculosis (Tb)
  • Immunization (Hep B vaccine if not already given at birth or prior visit)

Infant Well Checks

6-8 weeks of life

  • Immunizations (DTaP, IPV, Hib, Hep B, PCV13, Rotateq)**

4 months of life

  • Immunizations (DTaP, IPV, Hib, PCV13, Rotateq)**
  • Anemia test (if high risk)

6 months of life

  • Immunizations (DTaP, IPV, Hib, Hep B, PCV13, Rotateq)**
  • Screening for exposure to lead
  • Screening for exposure to Tb

9 months of life

  • Blood lead test
  • Anemia test

Toddler Well Checks

12 months of life

  • Anemia and lead test (if abnormal or not done at 9-month visit)
  • Oral health screening
  • Screening for exposure to Tb
  • Immunizations (PCV13, Hib, Hep A)

15 months of life

  • Immunizations (DTaP, MMRV)

18 months of life

  • Behavioral Health Screening (MCHAT evaluation for autism)
  • Immunization (Hep A)

24 months of life

  • Behavioral Health Screening (MCHAT)
  • Anemia test
  • Lead test

30 months of life

  • Body Mass Index

Annual Well checks

3 years of life

  • Vision screening

4 years of life

  • Vision screening
  • Hearing screening
  • Immunizations (DTaP, IPV, MMRV)

5-10 years of life

  • Vision screening
  • Hearing screening
  • Body Mass Index (diabetes screening if indicated)

11 years of life

  • Cholesterol screening
  • Body Mass Index (diabetes screening if indicated)
  • Immunizations (TdaP, HPV#1, MCV)

12-14 years of life

  • Depression screening and option of teen confidential exam
  • Immunizations (HPV #2, #3 boosters)
  • Body Mass Index (diabetes screening if needed)

15-18 years of life

  • Confidential exam, discussion of transitions into adulthood
  • Depression screening
  • Immunizations (MCV boosters)
  • Body Mass Index (lipid and diabetes screening if indicated)
